How good are the old merc outboards? i found a nice 1971 135hp p'm thinking of getting for my boat? - old outboards

Typically, a speedboat used very little about their lives. On some summer weekends. Mercury, a good engine.

Implement. They have a name? No SO should be good.

Perform a compression check. Make sure there is much difference between cylinders.

After 1 0 years of service is a speed boat "toast", that would be like sending a B-29 WWII battles in a moment today ..

They are great when they work. I would not buy an old engine ... Sounds like trouble.

Mercury outboard engines are good but a little more complicated and Chrysler Evinrude work. How old outboard motors all who wants someone who can not rust holes in the tree or the seal of the pinion drive less everything, what oil leak and has had enough water. After replacing the purchase of a new pump in it and adjust the thermostat if you have one.
You have to remove the lower unit to make out to the bomb, it would be a good time to look at the board + the tree where it into the lower unit. Be careful not to turn the shaft of the gear lever, while to the side to insert it into the correct position when back together.

It has been used in salt water.?
Can you try before you buy?
Get a pressure test
Remember, this is 35 years.

There is nothing wrong with an old motor boat. Simply go to the local lake a look at some of the old is still running. I have a pressure test of the engine and we found a good mechanic first. Mercury has been around for a long time, and there are many old still in use.
